DEAN BARRY 33 year old, Film maker and Actor, and one third of CYPHER
Films, Dean Barry was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY of Italian and Jewish
heritage. While attending Morris H. Weis Elementary school, at the age
of 9 years old, Dean was not only acting in "Joseph and The Amazing
Technicolor Dream Coat" as Benjamin, but he also designed and constructed
the set for the show . Theatre continued through Dean’s life with
productions of “You Can’t Take it With You”, “A
Christmas Carroll”, “To Kill a Mocking Bird” and the
“Odd Couple” all before high school. With the beginning of
high school, Dean found himself longing for entertainment. While attending
Lafayette H.S., Dean would volunteer time after his own school day to
work on set construction for shows in Edward R. Murrow H.S. In 1991 Dean
successfully transferred into Edward R. Murrow H.S. and joined the technical
theatre crew where he met FRANKLYN and three time Emmy award winner Chris
Hayes. After dozens of high school productions, Dean attended Baruch and
majored in Accounting and Business but spent his weekends at Purchase
College, S.U.N.Y. where Chris and FRANKLYN had been attending school for
technical theatre and film. His need to support his family and his desire
to entertain an audience pulled Dean in many directions. Now with “LAST NIGHT IN BROOKLYN”, Dean continues the tradition of acting and behind the scenes devotion. He has taken on a leading role as well as multiple production aspects. As “Paulie Funzzo” Dean portrays a multi-layered character, bringing humanity and humor to a hard and ruthless killer. At the same time, he has been indispensable as a behind the scenes force and editing partner. Devoting countless hours toward the success of this film. Dean’s approach to getting “LAST NIGHT IN BROOKLYN” to an audience, has created a blue print for distributing this film and others in the future. It allows for audiences across the country to view an independent film without a distributor. This model will even out the playing field for a company of our size and allow for DVD sales and audience records that can rival widely distributed films. Dean has brought CYPHER Films into the community and has opened our offices to the people of our neighborhood. With Chris Hayes and FRANKLYN, Dean has hosted summer-time BBQ’s that give the community a chance to get to know each other. He has partnered with neighbors and created a neighborhood beautification project in which flowers and vegetables were planted and continue to be. He has taking on the role of co-writer and director for “LOST IN AMSTERDAM” that is currently in pre-production while promoting “LAST NIGHT IN BROOKLYN”. Dean is and will be a driving force of CYPHER Films now and in the future.
